Banana Spider is a generic name and doesn't really identify the species properly.

Some people refer to Golden Silk Spiders as banana spiders.

The Garden Spider is also called a banana spider.

All spiders are venomous, and either of the "banana spiders" are no different. However their venom is not toxic to humans, and at most will cause a small welt.

Both are orb weaving spiders, and are usually found in fields, with their webs spread between weed stalks or branches of bushes, low to the ground to catch insects, mostly grasshoppers. Because of the nature and habitat of their prey, these spiders are unlikely to wind up inside your house, unless you happen to have lots of weeds inside, and grasshoppers jumping around. Not only that, but orb weaving spiders aren't prone to do much wandering around. They are unlikely to find themselves indoors either as adults or as hatchlings.

Be warned, however, that there is a deadly spider from South America called the Brazilian Wandering Spider that is also known by the generic name of banana spider. They don't have yellow markings, but they often stowaway on banana shipments. Not much to worry about, there, though. The insecticides used to treat banana shipments these days usually wipe out all of the critters that hitch a ride.

Banana spider is an ambiguous name. It is used
for more than one kind of spider. The golden
garden spider, Argiope aurantia, is sometimes
called a banana spider. It rarely comes into a
house. I had one on my front porch a few years
ago, but not actually inside the house. In tropical
areas I have seen other species of Argiope in a
house. The other use of the name banana spider
applies to spiders that have come in on shipments
of bananas. These are likely to be tarantulas or
giant crab spiders (also called huntsman spiders).
Other smaller kinds of spiders may be in the
banana bunches, but they are usually not noticed.
The fumigation of the banana shipments nowdays
usually kills off any animals living in them.

-They are huge and nasty and surprisingly hard to spot on a trail.

-They came here from south america accidentally in a banana shipment

-They can't deal with the kinds of spaces inside a house and haven't been known to be major pests indoors. Indoor spiders tend to spin smaller webs in corners and window frames.

I don't think they want to be in your house. They live in the woods.
They are pretty scary looking.
They build huge webs in the woods. I don't think there is enough room in the house for them to build. Also, they eat alot of insects and there wouldn't be enough food for them in your house.
