This is just some advice from a currently pregnant woman, who also has a 15 month old, so take it for what it's worth.....
During pregnancy it is very important to maintain good health. Part of doing so is maintaining a reasonable body temperature. During tanning, your body's core temperature may become elevated and cause your unborn child to be uncomfortable. This is because you're directly in the sun for a long period of time.
Now during swimming your core temperature may stay at a reasonable level because of the coolness of the water. This is providing that the water 1. isn't heated 2. you're not moving excessively and 3. though in the water, you still remember to DRINK water.
Lastly, tanning on a general basis is harmful to your skin. It can cause preterm aging and cancer. However, if you're a sun worshiper, you have to deal with those consequences. For the time being, forget being the sun worshiper, wear sunscreen, and drink plenty of water for the sake of your unborn baby.

I was living in Mexico on the beach for the last 3 mos. of my pregnancy, and my husband was more concerned about the chemicals in the sunscreen than if I got a bit tan. I usually wear sunscreen so I was worried I'd get burned to a crisp, but I also didn't love the idea of covering myself in chemicals. I wore a hat and went swimming almost every day for 3 mos. and never got burned. Just be careful...wear protective clothing and don't lay out trying to get tan, only because it's obviously not good for your skin...it doesn't affect the baby.

Yes, it's okay. You won't cook your baby. But I've heard that you should limit swimming in pools while pregnant because of all the chlorine in the water. If you live near the coast, I'd suggest going to the beach instead.

Well obviously you are not going to be nuking the baby like in a tanning bed...but still...the smart thing to do would be to avoid the sun and wear lots of sunscreen. Skin cancer is NOT fun and I have a nasty little scar to prove it.

Just becareful, it is okay to have fun and such just make sure you drink lots and lots of water on hott days. And becareful if your body temp. raises then so dont your babys. Thats why the docter tells you to try to stay cool and drink lots of non carbinated drinks.

LOTS of high SPF sunscreen. Why would you endanger your babe?
