I just looked it up on the internet at US News, and 1/3 of freshman drop out, 1/3 of all sophmores drop out, and then once past the half way point, most (90+%) graduate. Doing the math, (2/3 remaining times 2/3 remaining=4/9) so 44% are remaining after sophomore year. 56% have dropped out by half way point. Wow!!! I'm going to get back to my school work now, because if I dont, I will be one of those statistics!!!!! [it's about SURVIVAL]

Well, let's put it this way; if you have just a high school diploma, your annual salary would be about $25,000 a year with a really good job, say as a McDonald's Magager. If you go to college and graduate, your annual salary would be about $50,000 a year for any job you are just starting if you have a college degree. And that's if you're a guy. For a girl, take away about $15,000 off the annual salary, even with a college education, doing the same job as the man. Motivated yet? If you keep your grades as high as possible in high school and join a few clubs, do volunteer work, the salary can go up even higher after college. If you go into the military and get a college education, the salary is pretty much open. Motivated yet?

It's not about where your salary starts, it's how much you will make over time, the crap work you will have to do, and do you like what you are doing. If you are okay doing crap work, then pick a career that has a union so you don't get screwed, but you will still be doing crap work. Which is perfectly fine as long as you like what you are doing.

My friend works at a local grocery store. She's been doing it for 10 years. She makes good money, she was making more than me when I graduated college. But there's no challenge to her job except she stands on her feet all day and she's bored. She looked into a career change, couldn't find a different job that she qualified for without going back to college first or taking a serious pay cut. She can't afford to support her son and pay for college so she's stuck where she is at now.

I'm in business, I have tons of opportunity and several directions I can go in, several industries I can work in. I could start my own company if I really wanted to. I love my job and the people I work with. I sit on my but for most of the day and I'm approaching a 6 figure salary.

If you aren't into your school work maybe you are in the wrong major. You have to go for something you really enjoy otherwise it's not worth it.

College rop out rate is 4 in every 5 who start do NOT graduate. It's the reason a diploma is worth so much. The difference in salary, for a high school grad they make around 25,000 a year (with a good job) For a college grad starting out is at least 30,000 and it goes up. However, if you go to a tech school starting salary would be closer to 50,000 way more if your a girl. The chick who said girls make less, is lying, that's only if you don't have a college diploma. Bottom line, the more schooling you have the more money you make.

Motivation to do your school-work.....hmmmmm.
Let's take a look at MY life, shall we?
I was always smart, but smarts don't replace hard work and effort.Due to my lack of diligence I had to work at a good number of jobs that SUCKED!
I processed hazardous waste for a living.I drove forklifts, tow trucks, auto parts delivery vehicles.I did all kinds of crappy things for a living.I was always good at what I did,and was promoted to "higher" positions because of my competence, but those "promotions" were only to slightly higher paying dead-end jobs.I never got the really good jobs because I never really showed that I cared about these jobs.I never put in the effort.
One day I got lucky.I found an entry level position in telecommunications.I grabbed it and ran! I applied all those qualities that I hadn't in the past. Now I'm one of the best in my field!I make good money, and I love my job.But the sad thing is that I could've been alot further along had I started putting my nose to the grindstone earlier!
