I was once told that the voice was like any musical instrument & that anyone with the motivation could learn to play it.
I had motivation. I have always loved music, and spent most of my teenage years with headphones on, hairbrush in hand, lip-syncing to Janis Joplin.
I went to a voice teacher. She made me sing, and then gave me exercises to do at home. I did the exercises religiously. During the second lesson, we went through the scales. She gave me more exercises. I did them everywhere....the shower, the car, the store....people thought I was crazy.
The third lesson, then the fourth. More exercises, more scales. Finally, before the sixth lesson, the teacher gently took my hand. "Some people make good musicians, and others make good fans," she said. "You are going to make a wonderful fan."
And that's my singing story. But maybe you have more talent than I did to start out with. In any case, it doesn't hurt to try. In fact, I hope you succeed so that the musically-challenged among us could have someone to look up to!

For every 1 singer with God-given talent, there are a hundred like you and I that have to work at it. The vast majority of popular songs are sung by vocalists that range from average to just plain awful, so don't stay away from the mic because of that.
Pick your favorite artist that you sound somewhat like, and let them take you to school. Listen to one of their c.d.'s until you have every lyric memorized, and you can sing along with the vocalist. Next, listen for any nuance, vibrato, quirk, hook( things that make a vocalist stand out) and nail them down.
Now, is that cheating? I can assure you that is exactly what all the greats do. They steal every lick they can get their hands on from their musical idols, and you need to do the same.
See you at the top!

you can definately work on it and see what happens... beside singing talent there is your charisma and appeal to the public... plus there some very unique sounding artist that aren't traditional sounding,,, but their something cool about their voices that carries over to the listener. Good luck!

Get a good karoke (sp) machine: I found one on line that is amazing. Some songs your voice will just naturally be cut out for--

I think it is, take chorus for awhile and if you're out of high school then take out your favorite band or group and try to sing along at -their- pitch and rhytm.
