it usually means there is swelling on the brain, they can drill a hole and put in a shunt to drain off the excess (CSF) cerebral spinal fluid and blood to keep pressure off of the brain if needed, this should keep her from having any further brain damage if there is any already, if the system doesnt return to normal and continues to make excess CSF the shunt may be left in as in the case with most (what they call water-head) babies

Her head is most likely swollen from the trauma of the motor vehicle accident. In all likely hood, her head hit something on impact, such as, review mirror, dash, number of things. A collapsed lung in this case is from trauma also, she will have a chest tube in to re-inflate her lung. Pray for your friend, without more details it's impossible to know the extent of injuries. Only a suggestion here, but one can usually purchases calling cards for as little as 5.00 bucks, but I know with the economy and all, this may not be possible.

It's a head injury, and no one on YA is going to be able to give you a prognosis, as none of us are her doctor. Call her family, I'm sure if you were good friends that they would be happy to speak to you about her.

its probably a swollen brain which means blood swells the brain as a protection mechanism but this puts the person in a coma and could kill the person if the brain isnt 'deflated'

Why not call one of her Relatives, maybe they can explain what is wrong with her. Dont expect an answer from one of us, we are not Doctors.
