I wasn't even that thrilled when he was alive. Now it is really overdone after years of his being dead. When I meet someone who yammers about Elvis being alive I look around frantically for an exit door.

I think you have to remember the image and the influence Elvis had. He was probably the first superstar, creating a worldwide net which many 'superstars' now would love to have. He was a massive shift from the music before, bringing black music and gospel music into the world, which until then had never been heard.
This is the reason people remember him, and it is this coupled with human tendancies for conspiraciies, couple together to bring us to the supposed 'sightings' of Elvis and the idea he is still alive.
I would also like to point out the adulation and worship that many other deceased singers and celebrities get. What about Kurt Cobain, Marilyn Monroe, Freddie Mercury? Even I am no completely innocent, as I am a Joy Division fan, and I see the late Ian Curtis (the lead singer) as legendary, mythic, even immortal in a way. Similarly, many dead rappers are treated as demi gods and role models, promoting a drug and gun fuelled lifestyle.
So I really can't see your point at all. People will always want a star to look up to, Elvis was the original.

The thing to remember about Elvis is that before anyone else did anything as innovative, Elvis did it all. He is largely responsible for all of the rock music that IS popular today. So even if his stuff sounds dated, it had a huge impace and that's why people still talk about it. However I do happen to like Elvis so people going about him doesn't bother me so much :)

hey, don't make the King use karate on you...

1. He virtually invented the idea of rock and roll, pop music demographics and shooting televisions.

2. He had his own plane.

3. He had The Voice.

4. He deep-fried his peanutbutter sandwiches.

5. He died 'straining at stool'.

It all adds up to (Ozzy voice) Rock and Roll.

Elvis has been gone for 29 years and he still makes 37 million a year. Always...The King of Rock & Roll.

I agree. Elvis is dead. Some people don't believe that. But I know for a fact the King is dead.
If Elvis was alive don't you think he would have shown his hand the minute Lisa Marie married Michael Jackson, The King of Weird. Hello!!!!
That was the true test of Elvis' mortality.
Let the man rest in peace.

Elvis?!!!! I'm fed up with everyone going on about Freddy Mercury and Queen!!!

I don't think half these people would be as 'popular' as they are if they hadn't died in a dodgey way!

Elvis is overrated and people should accept the fact that he is 6 feet under and nothing is left except his bones.
