Anything that is supernatural freaks the bible thumpers out. It shakes their faith. Proves they really aren't sure of their beliefs, right?

The Christians that object to the Harry Potter series claim that it promotes the practice of witchcraft and that witches are devil worshipers and that the books glamorize both to children. This is nonsense, of course. As anyone that has actually read the books will agree. Unfortunately, the twits that are involved in the book burnings and/or calling for the books to be banned *haven't* read the books! I find it absolutely outrageous that they will freely admit that they haven't read them, yet are condemning them. How ignorant can they be?! There are many examples in the books that are valuable, but they don't know because they can't be bothered to find out. It is fiction people! Funny, interesting, entertaining fiction, with some good morals thrown in, but without preaching!

I"ve read that some so-called "religious" people don't like Harry Potter because it's about magic and witches and wizards and the "black arts" -- and, somehow, these people equate all that with devil worship and the anti-Christ.
As far as I can tell, Harry Potter is about that age-old battle between good and evil. Yes, sometimes bad things happen to good people (like Voldemort killing Harry's parents) but Harry continues to follow his heart and choose for honesty, sincerity, loyalty and faith in all that is good. And he continues to triumph.
I can't imagine that J.K. Rowling will let Voldemort beat Harry in the last book, just as I can't imagine that all the evil in the world will eventually win out over what's good.
I don't see that there's any conflict in being Christian and being a number one Harry Potter fan.

Read this website. Print off a copy and give it to any Christian who opposes Harry Potter. It specifically addresses the issue of the need for kids, both Christian and otherwise, to be reading good books like this! If this doesn't change their mind, nothing will!

I am a Christian, and I LOVE Harry Potter. The books have some good themes in them: good vs evil, staying true to yourself and your friends, standing up for what is right, trying your best, choosing what is right over what is easy, and so many others. If other Christians hate Harry b/c of the magic, witches and wizards, what about books such as The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, The wizard of Oz and other books on the same themes? The world would be deprived of some very good literature.

I used to resent the books because of the fact i presumed they could be fairly nerdy and mideval-themed, yet some years after the fourth e book got here out, i began out reading the sequence and that i in my opinion cherished it. i found out that it wasn't dorky in any respect, it became properly written, and it wasn't mideval in any respect. while you're judging the sequence by ability of the flicks, I recommend you are trying reading the books. they're much extra helpful than the flicks, and the flicks are not very precise. They teach a likeness between Ron and Hermione way too early, they alter scenes around, etc.

I'm a Christian and while I'm not a fan of Harry Potter I never said JK Rowling is against God. I don't know what she believes in. I see why some Christians don't like the books though, because they are about magic, warlocks, wizards, etc and those things are considered demonic or not of God. I know some Christians who happen to like the books, I'm just not one of them. If you'll renounce Christianity for a Harry Potter book then I feel sorry for you.

Oh, people like to complain. I have a friend who is a minister, and I had asked him this question. he said it's harmless child fantasy and if it's getting kids to read he see;s no problem. So, it's not all Christians....
