The large Cuban population in Florida is well known, but did you know that there is a huge Colombian population as well? The Colombians in Miami are so numerous that they even are allowed under Colombian law to elect a senator to the Colombian Senate. Caramba!
So, your ideas for an intriguing essay would be to include the Colombians, Puerto Ricans, Venezuelans, and whatever Hispanic groups there are in addition to the Cubans [good people but very vocal as a group]

Honestly, it's not. If you want to study hispanic culture and heritage you should study it from the source. Do a report on Spain or Puerto Rico. But, since your being forced to write this essay, how's this:
1) The hispanic influence in Florida is an example of how America's culture has adopted practices from other cultures.
2) Learning about another culture increases your own experience and knowledge, making you a more rounded individual.
I hope that helped. Remember: When in doubt, make something up.

It is important because it affects the groceries you can buy, the music and news you hear on the radio, the fashions in clothing and hairstyles popular in your neighborhood, and even the dialect and popular phrases you will use and encounter. The conquistadores explored Central America and up the Gulf Coast. Each area assimilated Spanish culture in a slightly different way, and the Florida area will have the Cuban and Columbian influence as well. In what ways has the Florida culture adopted Hispanic influences differently from the Southwestern states such as New Mexico and Texas? How about California? How is it different in areas without much Hispanic influence at all, such as Denmark? Good luck on your essay.

There were Spanish cities in Florida before the English ever showed up. Today there are Hispanics from a variety of countries, each bringing a rich culture, language dialect, and set of problems.
It is important, especially today, to know the history of your state and country. Where are people coming from? I don't mean geographically where as much as philosophically and culturally.

The Spanish have a long history in the New World. They colonized the Caribbean, Mexico and a large portion of the USA. Hispanics have increased their poulation throughout the US and continue to come here. It is said that more of us will be speaking Spanish than will speak English in a few years.

Some of current day reasons were listed. Learn how much Spain was involved in development of trade during our early colonial period. What caused Spanish American War. I can remember for sure, but there is something surprising about first or biggest colony in the New World that's surprising.

Talk about the colonial history up until the present. Talk about the positive aspects (architecture, etc.) and the negative aspects (e.g. Tony Montana in Scarface - reinforcing the notion that all Cubans are drug running criminals).
