wow theres so many things i have to tell you.....i know im not going to get the best answer though because your not gonna listen to my reason........ok first of all there is already a sport called handball.....maybe you've never heard of it....just this shows you how much you know....then if you look it up on wikipedia and what most of the sensible and intelligent world will tell you.....football refers to american football, association football(which is abbreviated to soccer) and rugby football.....so technically its not just soccer thats called football........now about the padding....if you've never played american football before then you seriously dont understand how much you need padding....first of all it hurts more getting a helmet right in the gut with someone going at sprinting speeds at you.......and the nature of our game is a little different than rugby...we also get hit harder if you watch a football game long enough.....then if we didnt wear padding the amount of spinal cord injury would be horrific.....remember we have to catch 50 yard passes down the field with out backs turned to the defender.....something that hardly ever happens in rugby.......tackles are always in front or on the side...unless its in pursuit which doesnt have any impact........lastly i gotta say........its just a game.......if you dont like it then who cares.......why cause people to fight or stir up emotions with people over a game.......its not worth it..........lastly what do you care about what we call our sport.......does it really matter

As a american, I can honestly say that nobody cares what they call it. We all know football isa soccer to everyone else, and that our football is just nothing to the rest of the world. Handball is already a sport. The only reason (american) football is called that is because historically tyou scored the most points by kicking it through two posts, wereas know that is worth less. It was probably a bad decision to name it football but it is so just deal with it and realize nobody really cares what a sport is called. I watch both soccer anf football and I watch for the game, not the name.

All rugby clubs are in fact "rugby football clubs".
It's all football just with regional variations
Should they also call "Ausie Rules Football" handball then?

Whatever. Football began as a running and kicking game and still is today. That is something you soccer fans still don't understand or bother to research.
The same can be said for soccer. Why soccer and not kickball? That's all anyone does is kick it, so why not kickball? (besides the fact that the title is already taken.)

Okay. First the Yanks saved the British in WW1 then again we bailed them out in WWII
It's called Soccer not football, the entire English speaking world calls it "soccer" not football, NOW and fun on that silly little island and call us when you get in trouble again and we'll send over REAL men to help you again!

Bloody Brits think they can still tell us what to do? Last time I checked we kicked your guys' arses out of this country so we could do whatever we pleased. We're calling our pigskin lovin game Football. If you don't like it, too bad, go drink some tea.

No. They call it Soccer instead.
As long as they realise that the real word is 'Football' and use it when not in the US, it's fine by me.
