A good site I always recommend is Indeed.com. They pull in jobs from all the major job sites. You can also pull in those jobs into a RSS feed reader (if you don't know what this is, check out Bloglines.com).
I certainly agree with the suggestion to contact your unemployment office. Another good resource is your public library. If they don't know something, they know where to go to find out.

www.usajobs.gov is the site for federal employment
also your state's workforce commission website.
And if you went to college, register on their career center website as an alumni....
Seek out specific companies (Mars, Coca-Cola, Ford, etc.)
