For a Christian, yes. That is, someone who has repented of their sin, trusted in Jesus Christ as their saviour and received God's forgiveness and eternal life. These people are used to seeing prayers answered in their lives. Also, trouble is not so much of a problem to them because they have God's presence in their lives and they know that he will only allow what they can bear.
Many non-Christians who believe in God find prayer comforting but, of course, their lack of a personal relationship with God means that they can have no real assurance in their hearts when they pray.
I will pray for you in your trouble and trust that you will find that ultimate comfort which is in Jesus. God bless you.

Yes. As long as u pray sincerely and have faith that it will help. The only way a prayer will work and be answered is that u hav 2 believe it was heard and believe it will be answered. Trust me it works. I've seen impossible things solved. With God all things are possible.

YES - read the Psalms in the Bible. You can read the Bible online at biblegateway.com. The Psalms are full of prayers to God from people who are in trouble - you can read them to help you know how to pray.

Prayers are always answered, you just gotta ask for the right thing. Sometimes its not what you want but what you need.

Yes. They help when you are in trouble. And when you are out of trouble you should be thankful to God.

If you're religious, than they can calm you down which in turn can help you get through whatever trouble you have. However, at the same time it uses up time you could be spending doing something else, and you won't actually receive any divine assistance because God doesn't exist. So it's up to you.

Yes, they have a kind of soothing effect, they help to calm down. Like a kind of hypnosis. I know many will condemn me for thinking this way. Sorry.
