kittens are less maintenance..
if you get a dog.. they are dependant on you even when your not home
cats give themselves their own baths, they use a litter box and they nap 20 times a day! :D
They purr to let you know they are happy, they have personality and will always make you laugh.. :D
and.. last but not least.. They are independent.

Bassethounds need so much exercise as you would not believe.
Siamese Kitten lovely but the grooming and the hair can be a problem. An Irish Wolfhound that's what you need, or a plain old moggie from the cats protection league. In fact why not a cat and dog to keep each other company.

I would go with the bassethound puppy because they don't have claws and can't scratch at you. They are also very cute, as also is the siamese kitten but they are very playful. Good luck with your decision. And make sure, whatever you choose, you give it lots of attention. =0)

Hi, I have a siamese cat, and they are the perfect breed if you can't decide between a cat and dog because they are so dog-like!
They are very playful, affectionate and outgoing - many like to play fetch with toys and learn tricks. They can also be walked on a lead!
However they do need to be kept indoors and they do get unhappy if you leave them for long periods of time. On the upside they don't need to be taken for walks!
I would say definitely have a cat first because a dog is an even bigger commitment.

Siamese are the most nearest to a dog, so intelligent, vocal they are lovely, great if you are out working both but love company and happy to be inside all the time.. i do love dogs bur bassets do slaver and you will have egg white marks all over!! go for kitty first this is a good start to dual commitment!! then decide dog or baby!!!

If you go for the Basset hound puppy then ask yourselves are you going to be leaving it on its own all day long, if yes then maybe you might just be better off with the Siamese kitten.

Basset hounds are wonderful with children and very loyal but when they bark and bark and bark, you will wish it was a cat instead. Unless you don't have really close neighbors around to complain about you. We had one named Barney whom we adopted when he was 3 and he lived to be about 12. Even when he was old, tolerated the grandchildren really well and still wanted to play. Flies try to bite them on the ears in the summer too and never wear a plastic collar on them because of the flabby neck.

Ive had both, siamese probably better choice. Basset Hound dribbles everywhere and slow when they get old, do big poos too!
Siamese are very vocal. I would look at other breeds.

There is more meat on a Basset hound, but a Siamese is more tasty. Only you can decide though.
