Wireless internet is to regular internet as cell phones are to land line phones. The information is sent through the air. In order to connect to a wireless internet service, your computer has to detect it, and then you have to choose to log on to the service. If you don't have your own connection, you might have a hard time, because people put passwords on their connections to keep people from piggybacking and "stealing" their connections.

You need to also get a router which is the radio that sends and receives the wireless signal from the internet connection. Depending on mode of the one you get (11b, 11g, etc) they could go 50-100 feet from the router.

there might be some services you get from your neighbours, if they have any. Most likely you won't be able to connect to them. Get a wireless router and set it up. Wireless internet is WiFi. you can usually get it free in shopping centers and airports.
