Y does not equal Why. In Spanish the letter y is pronounced "y griega" I believe, and they do not say "Y Griega!?" when asking why. It's just a coincidence. For grammars sake I don't say "Y."

because that is the way that it is spelt perhaps?
if it was "y" then it would be pronounced "eee" as per most languages.
I am one of those sticklers that absolutely abhores text language and abbreviations, it is just sheer laziness
