~~~I do believe it is when a newlywed couple enters their home together for the first time after their marriage ceramony,,,It is tradition that the husband carries his wife over the threshold (doorway),,,and they start their new life together as hunband and wife,,,,~~~

The threshold is the plank under a door; when you walk through a door you cross the threshold, thus the terminology.
