Is there any truth in theis stereotype? I am asking this again, in a slightly different way!
People responded quite aggressively to my suggestion that the hype about Star wars was not shared by myself and possibly others. It also seems to be mostly men who are excited by the movie. Why could this be? I'm just tryling to understand the phenomena? It has been suggested to me that men have few subjects they can communicate comfortably about...star-wars is one such 'comfortable' topic!
Are we to believe that men really are a slave to their own masculinity?
May the force be with you...ya gonna need it!

I am female and I don't think, I KNOW that Star Wars (Episode 4: A New Hope) was and is the best film in the history of the world ever. Maybe you have to be a child of the 70s to truly appreciate it's brilliance and just how ground breaking it was at the time, not just in terms of visual effects but also the way the story was told.

Even though it is coming up to 30 years old, it certainly stands the test of time, both visually, the story is ageless and there are no fashions or music form that time period to date it.

A true timeless and ageless classic.

Well, that is a stereotype, but I'm a girl, I'm not nerdy, and I like to think I have a social life in which I can talk about anything, but I absolutely love Star Wars ever since it was introduced to me when I was little.

Anyway, I can't help you with male communication, but I guess I've confused you a bit more because I'm a girl, who likes Star Wars. I have also delighted in the fact that Sky Movies is showing every Episode.

Some of what you said is true. Most star wars fans are guys. I can think of 3 girls I know who like star wars. Personaly I am not a competer person, but I know plenty of star wars fans who are computer geeks. Most people consider me and my friends to be geeks so I guess we must be, but I would not have said we are. We like star wars but otherwise we are pretty much normal. As far as star wars being a comfortable subject to talk about, it definatly is for me. i don't feel uncomftorable talking about other stuff, but I do talk about star wars more than most other subjects. as far as why femals do not appretiate the movies, I really don't know. Although I have noticed that most girls don't like any science fiction movies, shows. If I was to propose a theory it would be this. All guys (atleast all the ones I know) enjoy fantasising about themselves as heros acomplishing amazing feats and fighting heroic battles ect. Since star wars is in a galaxy far far away instead of on earth it is very easy for guys to think of themselves in star wars. Most girls I know don't indulge themselves in self fantacies the way guys do, so they can't associate well with star wars. But for guys it has every type of fantasy, sword fighting, gunfighting, dogfighting, it has everything.
i don't know if i am correct, but it seems like a good theory to me.

My mother loves Star Wars and she is no nerd. She has difficulty setting her video going. My mum is nearly 74 so was in her 50's when Star Wars first came out.

I like Star Wars I know I have a computer but I don't think I fit into the nerd category yet.

So me and my mum prove the theory wrong.

Well, the reason men are more able to indentify with something like star wars is because men tend to be more interested in science related things in general, men are more "analytical" where women tend to be more about the "feeling" of things. If you told a woman a story about an orphan boy who was raised by his aunt and uncle, and then had revealed to him that he has a destiny to triumph over a an injustice, with the soap opera like revelation that the person behind the injustice was his long lost father, they'd LOVE the concept. because then, it's all about 'relationship drama'

but you tell them it's about spaceships, laser blasters, sword fights (sabers) and they'll just space out.

For me, (as I am somewhat in touch with my feminine side, as I had a lot of females around me as a kid) I always found starwars to be a space soap opera.

Not sure about most fans.
I'm a white male, 30, 240lbs and athletically built.
I enjoy the Star Wars movies for the entertainment value of the story.

John Cena, a great style of folk say that all and sundry his followers are females, and sons and daughters, or losers who do no longer understand lots approximately wrestling. yet i'm a Cena fan and that i've got watched wrestling my total existence, i'm 13 so i do no longer think of which ability i'm little, yet i comprehend people who like Cena who're adults and not females, and as quickly as I went to Summerslam there became a white guy there dressed like the previous John Cena along with his previous Foot Ball jersey and hat and each element.
