Neither, why only keep the choices to two options when there are over twenty available?
I use a Mooncup menstrual cup, best option there is, or at least the best internal options because it carries no health risks, environmentally friendly, cheap and convenient.
Tampons I wouldn't use if they paid me because I know fine well how ridiculously bad for vaginal health they are, and pads are just not enough to cope with my heavy flow.

I prefer tampons cause it is less messier and the inconvenient smell is not there but I heard it is best to swich from time to time. I use tampons during the day and pads at night

pads as tampons are dangerous that blood needs to come away and i think tampons could stop some of that

I prefer a tampon with a panty-liner just incase you have any leakage during the day and pads at night while sleeping.

Use tampons only for brief periods of time and only out of necessity, pads are safer! Just change often and wash more frequently during that particular time. Peace!
