I caught my teenage child pleasuring themself in their room. I grounded her for two months. I told her that only dirty whores do this and she started crying. Was I right to do this?

Okay Liberals! Good girls do not do these things and it always leads to sex and promiscuity.

I wouldn't have called her that. That's not setting a good example. I would have told her, very calmly, that that's not what good girls do. Teach her that she needs to have morals and that sex (in any form) is unacceptable.

No. You were absolutely wrong. According to statistics, 90% of people masturbate, the other 10% lie when asked. Go and look at yourself in the mirror now. Are you a dirty whore, or a liar? It will be one or the other.

She was not laying in the middle of the street, she was in her room. Would you rather she was getting her "pleasure" some other way?

Pronk1984 per your additional.
Are you honestly telling me you NEVER have? I would rather be a "liberal" than a hypocrite.

Explain to her that you over reacted, that what she was doing has always been looked on as a taboo and it took you by surprise. Admit the truth that you do / did it as well.

I don't want to tell you how to parent your child, but I'd say absolutely not. Just because your daughter is masturbating does NOT make her a dirty whore. That was a very cruel thing to say to her. You need to explain to her that you were just shocked at what you saw, and that you're sorry for saying such vile things to her. Then you need to explain that masturbating is a normal and healthy thing that is something you do by yourself, and only by yourself until you're married. Personally I'd rather have her masturbating in her room than going out and getting knocked up at 13. I caught my boys doing the same thing and they're 10 and 8. I calmly explained to them that it's something they do in private, with themselves only.

Kids these days are a lot more sexually aware than they were just a few years ago. I think you might need to have the "birds and bees" talk with your daughter. If you need help, there is a great book written for kids called "It's So Amazing" by Robbie Harris. Please don't make her think that sex is a terrible thing because it's not. It's just not something that children need to be engaging in. Good luck.

No I am sorry I am a mum of 3 teen boys and one girl now is an adult and I would not have done that first I always knock on there door and wait until they say come in. The 2nd I would have been pleased that at least if the teen was doing this it was at home and not some place with a boy. masturbating is quiet normal and is not only for any type of person.

No you were not right to do that. Now she is going to think that she is the only one that does that and worse, she is going to think that you think she is a whore. I would sit her down and explain to her why you reacted the way you did. At least she was doing that and not sleeping with some random guy. I am sure that was hard for you to see though as her mother. Good luck!

WOW, I can understand that you would be upset, but no need for name calling. You may have just broke any kind of bond that your daughter and you had. Not only that but you could cause a lot of damage to her mentally. AS for masturbation. She is a kid..It's something different and new. She is learning her body right now. Give her a little slack.

No! Jesus you're mean. Masturbating is normal. And grounding her for it is just plain wrong. And making her believe dirty whores do it SHOULD make her cry cause you were being a b****

You should have told her that it was wrong to do, but you shouldn't have said that whores are the only ones who do this. Normal people do it too.

Honestly, you shouldn't have said that to her.You seriously embarassed her to the point she may never trust you enough to come to you with anything personal. Is your baby girl truely a dirty whore?Or did she need you to explain sexuality to her? That approach may not have damaged her as much.Go apologize.
