It's quite frustrating reading things that are written incorrectly. I work in Marketing and almost as second nature I scan through any text and mentally highlight all the discrepancies - I wouldn't be good at my job if I didn't. I don't always point it out to people but sometimes if they've said something really stupid it annoys me and I have to point it out. It doesn't take a minute to check what you've written, especially with spell checkers and things, not so much on here but on email/word processed documents etc. I would say grammatical errors are more irritating than spelling.

But I still make mistakes myself and it is annoying when people correct me, especially if I know it's wrong but I'm just being lazy!

Whether we like it or not, people judge our sincerity and intelligence by the care we take in expressing ourselves. When someone posts a question and can't take the care to check the spelling and grammar that calls into questions their sincerity in asking the question. It also displays a degree of ignorance.

Why would a questioner not take more care in asking the question?

Why would a person take the time and effort to give a thoughtful answer to someone who really doesn't care about the question?

I tend to do both. If you aren't spelling correctly, with a spell-checker available, that says a lot about you, none of it good! I tend to answer the question as I understand it, for often the spelling is bad, along with the grammar, the syntax, vocabularly, and punctuation. And if someone cannot bother to display a reasonable standard of English, why should I grant my impeccable wisdom and expression to them, casting 'pearls before swine.' ( ;-{())

Because some of the spelling is atrocious; Put that together with a nasty, idiotic question, usually about penis size, and the replies will not be welcoming. If the question is misspelled, but asked in a polite fashion about something that is not offensive, the replys will typically be generous, in ature.

There is no excuse for bad English grammar or spelling, especially when there is a spell checker included in the site. It isn't clever to be ignorant.

Because it hides the fact they are fundamentally stupid!

I may not be the best speller but I'm honest.

I think people using the check spelling button think it makes them clever!

What is Summut?

"Words are tyrannical things."

If I can't understand you then I can't answer you correctly.

I know that it seems petty but this is not a conversation. You have to spell things right or you will just leave us wondering "Huh?"
