I grew up in Houston, TX and now I live in Seattle, WA. I don't make fun of others from other places. Southern hospitality should teach those of us in Texas otherwise.
As I've seen it, I am the one that gets teased. Espcially for the lingo i.e. : y'all, fixxin' to, etc...

They aren't very worldly and dont know any better. After all, the big city they come from have small towns with hicks. Take New York City.....you should hear about hicks that live in the Appalachians....they may be more unsophisticated than the ones here in Texas. Same goes for places like Virginia which a lot of rich, educated, politicians, etc. live; yet go to the souther part of the states and they...??? could be considered worse than here. Same goes for California and elsewhere. All states have citified people and they all have poor hick type people.

I live in Houston and I don't make fun of people not from Houston.
I have been made fun of many times for being from Texas and talking the way I do. Like, A--hole is just another word for "human being", I explained once in Wash, D.C.. Why not enjoy it and make fun and laugh with everyone? It can't be all that serious. People have always told Aggie, Pollock, Lawyer, and Priest jokes. Some are funny, some are cruel. Just ignore the cruel ones and don't be defensive. People make fun because it makes them feel superior when it really shows what a "human being" they are.

well ... texas is actually in the southwest, and having lived there, i did notice that a few people from big cities did refer to smaller towns in a derogatory manner. i also noticed it in pennsylvania, california, maine, and when i lived overseas. i'm not sure why it's a thing, but there's something about some urbanites making sport of more rural areas and the people who live there. i also notice that people in smaller towns usually have a few choice words for those 'uppity, high falutin' townies.'
so i guess there's attitude everywhere.
hook 'em horns.

I think it's the same the world-over. I think that people from big cities trash-talk people from small cities/towns. It's not just Texans that do this. It's like a young Dutch girl, with golden-blond hair, a red, salacious smile, and beautifully sculpted breasts, which sway, ever so gently, in the cool Netherlands breeze.

Some (not all) big city people have lost touch with the earth.
All that cement and blacktop have isolated them from their roots so that they think anyone who lives "out there" is a hick, backwards, can't possibly understand what is going on.
Boy do they have it backwards..............
