I know if Scotland were independant we wouldn't be a trading force to be reckoned with or the 'World Power' the UK thinks it is but is that important?

Do you think its time for Scotland to rise again as a nation?

The answer is a resounding YES. Having to be governed by England is antiquated and irritating. It is only a matter of time until terrorism infests Scotland due to the so called "Great Britain" idea. We have the resources to be more than self efficient including the revenue from oil, gas etc. I have travelled all over the world and Scots are very highly regarded wherever i've been, more than can be said for some of some of our English neighbours, so i'm sure that an independant Scotland in a political way would have no trouble building good relationships with other countries. I could go on for hours but i'll just leave it at that. Read the answer above from the guy that says "let the jocks have their ****" Need I say more?

No.
Scotland has been part of the union for 299 years now. What is the point in changing? Its not as if we are treated like second class citizens. When our ancestors signed the union treaty we got a great deal from it. It allowed Scotland to retain its own distinct legal system. We are the only country in the world with three possible verdicts from a jury trial. We also have a distinct education system that rivals the best in the world. The other coinsideration of independence is the cost. Think of how much money it would cost to set up all the silly little things, like a Scottish DVLA, after all, if we were independent, would we want people in Swansea to be looking after the driving details of everyone in Scotland? Also what currency would we use? We can't use Scottish notes since they are linked to the pound sterling, which is controlled by the Westminster Government. It would effectively still allow Westminster to govern Scotland.

I live in Scotland but I am English. I worry when I hear the view of many who want Independence. Nationalism is the last refuge for those who want to to blame others.

Do I believe that the English screwed the Scots throughout history? Not any more than they screwed the poor people of England.

Your average Glasgow citizen has more in common with their counterpart in Newcastle that they do to someone in Oban or Skye.

Instead nationalism is about saying that we are different because of the place we were born, across an imaginary border.

I don't see why Scotland shouldn't rise up, but at this point in time I think it's highly doubtful that it will happen. If they seperated from the UK, it would probably be hard for the people of Scotland to adjust.

it may be counted on how they benefit independence from something of the united kingdom. England, Scotland etc don't have club to the ecu. Britain (uk) has club. If Scotland are not to any extent further area of england, then technically Scotland ought to connect the ecu. In precis, it actually relies upon on how Scotland turns into self sufficient of the united kingdom. i've got faith, that Scotland will effectively stay area of england, yet have independence in particular aspects including taxation, regulation etc. under that distinctive setup, Scotland could not leave the ecu as Britain could be required to leave the ecu as Scotland's club could be in line with being area of england. in spite of this, curiously that maximum Scottish Mp's seem in favour of the ecu, so its not likely they could ever call a referendum on the ecu for the Scottish people.

Yes, vote SNP in the next election. We took a lot of seats at the last one. We have our own money, and our own government, but what was the point in paying so much on a building that won't ever have any real usage? May as well give us the independence so we can make the cost seem relevant!

NO! As a Scot I think things would only get worse.

Come on! We can't even build a new parliament building to House our government (Iwas NO NO by the way!) without getting that wrong for 2 things
a)have you seen it??????
b)the £40m bill went up to £400m!!! (have you seen it?????)
Can you imagine the state of the economy if we went solo??? Can't even build somewhere for a few meetings without that going so horribly wrong!!

Sometimes the grass is most definitely not greener on the other side. I don't agree with Labour's ways at the minute, but things can surely only get better. Who would we have to lead us? Shudder to think of some of our options.

Stick together! There are enought problems in the world with the UK becoming divided.

Being able to spell 'independent' would be good and some of us strive very hard for this through political means.
But look at some of the bloody little englanders who have posted here.
For they are the Nigels.
And we have to laugh at them to keep them in their place.
Their fat and stupid fingers cannot type anything other than ill-informed bile and you wonder how ugly they must be.
