Why is it that the world hates breastfeeding so much? Doctors say it's the best for my son, but when i feed in public ppl are disturbed. There is no skin showing when i feed him, there is a blanket covering everything. There's less skin showing then i've seen on some girl's shirts but no one complains about that. Is this any different then feeding a child with a bottle?

People are small-minded and ignorant. You feed your baby and ignore those idiots. Wait til they have children and their baby wants some milk while waiting at the bus stop.

Our culture has a totally sexualized perception of breasts. I have met many men who actually think that breastfeeding is stimulating for a woman!
I find that the best thing to do is to smile at people. Sometimes they are a little embarassed that they noticed you were feeding and it comforts them a little to know that you're not worried or embarassed about being noticed. I have often found that the easy going smile causes them to smile and relax about the whole thing.

It's not the whole world, you know! In France, I don't think it really is a problem. Of course, if you let your breast hang after feeding your baby, then that's gross! But as you rightly said, you usually can see even less than when you're looking at some girls.
And you're right: it's good for your kid and, if you know how to feed him properly so that you won't get "holes", it's better for your breasts as well.

Because people are ignorant.
Good for you for giving your baby the best!
Once when someone told me that I should "Do that in the bathroom" (nurse my infant son) I told her to take her lunch into the bathroom stall and eat it.
Have a response lined up to peoples comments. If they stare, stare right back. You have every right to feed your child and are LEGALLY entitled as well...EVERYWHERE in public that you want.
If any place of business asks you to not nurse there, you have the legal right to sue them.
Stay strong and know that you are doing the right thing.

The answer is and has been it sets a precedent that publicnudity is okay.
Personally I think public nudity is okay.
Unfortunately, I am in the minority.
So, if you whip out your breasts in public sme people will be offended because they can see your nipples or at least they think they can. They will also get upset if you pee on the wall. It is not sexual but they don't want to have to explain to their children about sex and private parts.

People just think you should keep that in your own home.....i didnt breast feed in public.....I was mostly worried that the blanket would fall off or my son would pull it off......I pumped before i left the house....i also found it gave me a break....and my husband could feed him......But if your okay with it then who cares what other people do about it.....Just ignore them and feed your son.....

If people want to be ignorant, then I would tell them when they are staring at me..."Is it ok if my child eats? Cuz if it bothers you I can just starve him" Although you have to say it sarcastic to get the point across. I wouldnt worry about someone else feeling uncomfy about it, as long as you are comfortable doing it, stress of being uncomfortable could make it to where you dont produce enough.

I've seen many women breastfeeding in public before, I don't think it's a big deal as long as they cover themselves up.

Do not worry about the ignorance of a few people. I breast fed all three of my children and yes it is the best for your child. Hang in there and ignore those people .
