I assume that you are using Internet Explorer v 6.0.
Go to View > Toolbars and make sure that the 'Standard Items' entry is ticked.

Put your cursor up on the toolbars and right-click.
Scroll to the bottom and choose CUSTOMIZE.
In the screen that pops up, scroll down the column on the left until you see the back button and highlight it
Then click ADD in the middle, and close the screen.

if u left click on the bars on top a menu screencome up and u need to tick next to where it says standard buttons then u get it back

try restart the pc
