Polls: A poll is either an election or a survey of a particular group. The word often refers to the election itself, as the place where voters cast their ballots is called a polling station. However, polls may also be surveys that merely canvass opinions and have no binding force. In this sense, a poll is often assumed to relate to politics, but it may simply refer to any survey of popular opinion

Surveys: are questionnaires or special interviews administered to a large group. Surveys are designed to obtain descriptions of people's attitudes, beliefs, opinions, or behavioral intentions. (see Surveys: Looking at the Big Picture) Example: Social psychologists interested in learning what teenagers from families of varying income levels think of marriage can administer a questionnaire to a sample of teenagers

Poll/s - a counting of votes
Survey/s- to query (someone) in order to collect data for the analysis of some aspect of a group or area

There is a difference, I prefer Surveys because you get to voice out your opinion and use your own words.
As to polls where in you only get to choose from a list of choices and pick your best choice. :)

Polls. Polls are just data collectors. Surveys are data collectors too, but usually have more questions... Who's got the time to answer 20 questions about a motel, anyways...

Surveys. Polls are boring. Surveys let you say whatever and you can see what other people wrote.
