If you mean drug-wise, that's difficult since Huxley had tried Fly Agaric extract (soma) and was convinced if it was just standardised and purified it would be a completely trouble-free pacifying "high" (he was wrong on that one). My answer to that would be that there IS no soma, nor ever will be. The concept is just plain wrong.

However, if you're referring to the calming normalising tranquillising effect, I think it's provided admirably - not by an all-powerful state as Huxley thought but by the corporate world. In short, by our own aggregate behaviour. Shopping, poor food, TV, internet, the works. All the "easy" choices that society keeps offering us, and offering us, and offering us every day; strangely, a more insidious form of control than even Huxley dreamed up.

I agree with the last answer, except you need to keep in mind that your the one (and I'm the one) providing these corporations with their markets. No one's force feeding it to you. You have alternatives, they're just not as exiting/pretty/fun.
