Your PC is probably infected with a virus, worm, trojan horse, spyware or adware, etc.

You should go to www.download.com, and look around for virus/spyware removers. To make this process faster for you, I put some links to download.com below for the best security downloads they have.

The first link is for Ad-aware, which scans for and removes spyware and adware from your computer. This is generally the best spyware remover software.

The second link is for a free antivirus program called AVG Anti-Virus, it works pretty well and gives good protection.

The third link is ZoneAlarm firewall, and its widely regarded as one of, if not the best, firewall you can have. It works very efficiently to keep intruders out of your computer, and setup is very simple.

The fourth link is not from download.com, it is for Trend Micro HouseCall, which is a free online scanner and remover for viruses, worms, Trojans, and spyware on your PC. Just click on "Scan now. It's Free!" Choose one of the two HouseCall kernel plug-in choices it gives, then scan. It takes a couple hours or so to totally check your system, but I guarantee you that it's worth it (I scan my computer overnight, but that's just me). Then it gives you a list of the bad stuff on your computer. You can remove all of it.

The fifth link is another free spyware removal untility from Trend Micro. This one is pretty quick to use, and it works well. Just "Scan and Clean your PC."

The sixth and final link is for the official Windows Update site, which installs critical security updates needed for your computer. These updates from the "critical download" section are absolutely a must-have.

Using all six of these links and downloads is the quickest way to get your computer running faster and healthier. I really hope that I answered your question, and that your computer runs normally again. Hope this helps.

Once you have done the scanning, it may be worth doing this as well.

Click Start > Run, and type msconfig
Click OK then choose the Startup tab.
Have a look down the list and see if there is any programs that you do not want/use that are being loaded on startup.
Once you have unticked all the ones necessary, click OK on all the boxes and restart.

BTW Avast AV is a good free antivirus program. The home edition is free, provided that you register, see the link below.

Hopefully this should solve the problems

You did not mention how much RAM and what processor you are running. You may be running too many programs that are loaded on startup. You can try to defragment for a start. You can also run a registry cleanup tool. Remove those programs that are no longer installed, from the registry. It helps, assuming you do not have virus or spyware in your system.

try getting some free anti-virus and free spy-ware. But the most secure thing is that you are using Windows XP since some time ago. That happens a lot when your registry gets full of keys that are not used anymore. I would advise you to get some registry doctor software (there are a lot of them free) and to uninstall software you don't need. In my profile you will be able to see my blogs, in one of them there is a tip about free anti-virus and antispyware.

More likely than a virus is spyware that runs to tell advertisers what junky ads they should force into your computer. Download the free Microsoft SPY BOT Search and Destroy. (Google it on web to find it). Run it and you will rid of an unbelievable amount of junk and get back to your oiginal speed.

Sounds like spyware or virus..
Got to spysweeper.com or lavasoft.com and run a scan for spyware....then go to mcafee and run a virus scan. Do you not run spyware and virus protection on your pc!

You can also go into the tools section of you Internet explorer page and click on internet options and delete files, clear history.

Download spyboy search and destroy. That helps you find spyware. If you don't know what spyware is, look it up. I can't tell you. But, also.. use the computers defragmentor. every computer has it. AVG virus scanner is good. Most viruses know how to get around norton.
