The heat isn't that bad actually because it comes with low humidity. If it's high humidity, then it can feel hotter. Also, phoenix is very spread-out and most people drive and so are in air-conditioned cars. Not many people are outside. Most people drive here. So, if you are just driving and then going to buildings, they are all air-conditioned and you don't even have to deal with the heat much. Besides, it also isn't that hot like there is a sun directly above you. Also, it's only hot for 3 months of the year and the rest of the year are cooler ... There are monsoon in the summer too and you can get lightnings and rains.

I moved to Phoenix from Chicago four years ago. Summers are kind of like winters back home-you don't go out as much-although I am not one to ever NOT go outside. Yes, even when it's 118 degrees as it was about a month ago. Once it passes 110 it's just PFH. That's Pretty F'ing Hot for those not in the know.
Really, it's pretty civilized here-the car is the worst, you can't crank up the A/C enough once getting in after work, say. Stay hydrated and take it easy, three months of hell is worth nine months of paradise.
Oh, and don't let ANYONE tell you there's no bugs in Arizona...my buddy tempted me to move out here and IT IS NOT TRUE!! Scorpions, palo verde beetles, carpenter bees...you wouldn't thing anything could live out here but I guess nature finds a way.
Phoenix is good to live in, but a young and unsophisicated city. There is very little good architecture, no good pedestrian walks, no nothing really as far as culture. Obviously we have a great deal of Mexican culture, but little else. I am used to Chicago where there are great neighborhoods with ethnic flair, here-not so much. Mostly Mexican. I like the Mexican culture, food, history, etc. But that's about all we got here...Unfortunately. I do not believe that Phoenix can ever be a destination for anything other than golf/resorts/shopping and great weather most times of the year. Downtown is a farce-a haven for the homeless rather than a bustling urban marketplace. Sad, really.

the funny thing is that once it hits 110 here-no matter how much more than temp climbs-it feels the same-miserably hot!!!

there are the normal things to cool off-the pool, staying inside w/the a.c blasting....

but there are alot of places to escape as well. flagstaff, payson, and prescott are about 2 hours north of downtown phoenix and they are typically 20 degrees cooler than phoenix is and they are beautiful places too!!

best times to go outside and do things are in the early morning before 10-11a or in the late evening after 7p. it's still hot during those times but the blazing sun isn't beating down on you....

the only time we get humidity is during the monsoon season which occurs this time of year for about 2-3 months.

best thing to do is try to stay indoors if you can or only go out when the sun has not risen or has set for the evening. drink lots of fluids and stock up on the sunscreen!!

My take on Phoenix is totally different, culture is alive here, there is everything you can think of and more. Theater, concerts, sports, and in different places... Herberger, Gammage, Dodge, Cricket, Glendale Arena, America West, Chase Field, Peoria Sports Complex, the list goes on and on. You can eat out every night for years and never hit the same place twice. Yes the downtown area is ratty, but Uptown is wonderful, and you can be in the mountains in 10 minutes for hiking . I have been here 10 years and never run out of things to do, and it isn't a dry heat during monsoon.. it is quite humid, not at all a dry heat. I can't say I am used to it, but the other months make up for it.

I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve the weather here!! I absoutely HATE cold weather. .. heck I consider anything below 74° cold haha!!

There are plenty of things to do here in Phoenix to keep yourself cool. You have A/C, swimming pools, water parks, staying inside. You can visit up to Flagstaff or Sedona for the day which is cooler. Also, you get to wear less clothing! I don't like having to wear layer upon layer of clothing in the winter.

Also, we don't have tons of natural disasters. No tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, snow storms... we have the Monsoon season which is nothing compared to the other things listed.
You get used to the weather after awhile. And like you said, no humidity makes it a hell of alot better to deal with the heat.

I was born and raised in Phoenix, and how I dealt w/ the heat is - I moved away, and I don't return in the summer. Buuuuuut those who are still there stay inside most all day in the a/c or in a pool (almost EVERY home has one), or they travel up north or to CA for the summer.

Everywhere is air conditioned. Most of us stay indoors during the day all summer. I don't know how people with outdoor jobs can do it, except I know they start work before dawn and finish in early afternoon. The weather is so beautiful most of the year it makes the summer bearable. Last evening it was in the low 70s, so I think we are almost done with summer. Yay!

you just deal with it. Run your AC a lot. If your AC breaks like mine did in July, you move to a hotel.

I've lived in AZ almost 24 years, I can't imagine living anywhere else. You just learn to live with the summers, it's much better than dealing with the winters

We move away. Last summer I said that would be my first and last in Phx. I hated being stuck indoors all summer and have no regret moving. Now ask me in a couple of months when Phx has georgeous weather and my answer will be different.

i was pregnant in the weather! had to be outside to use my cell phone, but other than that i was inside with ac. the heat gets the worst at around 3-4pm... fortunately that when i normally got out of my poorly airconditioned job. i hated it there! my husband moved us there, we've left since and i told him i will NEVER live there again!
