I have gotten IM's from someone claiming that they are having an affair with my husband and I am trying to find out if there is anyway to trace this. I believe it is someone else I know and they send me IM's as well. If someone can help me I would be so appreciative, this is very important. Thank you very much.

You would have to trace their IP address and being that it's an instant message...there's no way you can do that because the instant message goes through yahoo or msn or aim or whatever instant message system you're using, and then it comes to you. Get this girl to write you an email...THEN you can trace the IP because it was sent directly to you. You'd be more successful enlisting the help of a friend who's majored or at least knowledgable in computer programming.

It usually takes a court order to trace IMs. To get a court order you need to ahve a criminal case. What you have is civil. Forget tracing data through cyberspace. Look for the tell-tale signs of an affair.

Here's what you do, but first, you must be have a little experience and knowlege about IP's and how they are originated and how to find where they come from. "click on your emails "Full Headers" and study them for a while. You will learn shortly where emails are coming from. Everybody out here has an IP address, that is THEIR computer. Compare the IP, in the origination sequence and you will learn how to find where your emails are coming from and if they are coming from the same computer./!
