i am having a c section in two weeks and i was wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect considering the aftermath pain, the average of the healing process, and how big is the actual cut?

I have had 2 c-sections. It is not as bad as maybe you have heard. I remember hearing horror stories!
Before the surgery they will prep you. They will shave the area and then hook you up to an i.v. (Painless). Then they will give you a spinal block. (like an epidural). I would have to say that this was the most uncomfortable thing of it all. You have to sit very still so they can put the needle in just right. But once it is in, well, you feel nothing from the waist down. Then they will begin the incision. It is a bikini cut, not very big. My last c-section was 1 1/2 years ago and I had stiches and staples. But my friend had one a few months ago and she had a glue like substance put on her cut. I wish my doc would have done this!! I think that was the most painful was the stiches and staples(Pulling) when they go to get the baby, all I felt was a little pressure , no pain at all.
Talk to your doc about options next visit. You will have pain medication so that will help. With each of my c-section, it took a good 2 weeks for me to feel like myself again. Getting out of bed and getting up from sitting did hurt. Not so much hurt, but very sore. Thank goodness I had a helping hubby and family to help me bounce back. Just make sure to take care of yourself. It was an ordeal, but looking at my babies, I am so thankful(it's worth it!)
Some extra advice that helped me: buy a small pillow so you can hold it to your stomach when moving around. This will help. Also walk around as much as you can, but don't over do it and get rest as much as you can. Try motrin for pain and soreness or tylonel.
Good luck and congrats on your new baby.!!!!!

The aftermath pain can be pretty bad. Once the anesthesia wears off, it's pretty painful. The average healing time is usually just a few more days than a regular birth. The actual cut just depends on how big the baby is. It could be 7 or 8 inches or it could be across almost the entire belly. Good luck and congrats on the little one :-)

1- Expect pressure and discomfort during the c-section.
2- Take good care of your self after the c-section, after all c-sections are consider a major surgery. A lot of risks go along with it so take precautions.
3- The average for the healing process if you don't over do it, after the c-section, would be any time from 20-60 days.
4- And finally the actual cut is very small, they will cut you a little above of the hair line in your vagina, after wards you can barely see it, and it's about 6 inches long horizontally.

Good luck and God bless!

I had a c section some time ago. Mine was an emergency so the cut is slightly bigger, but normally its no more than i would say 5cm. It is done very low, so even wearing a bikini wont reveal it. Its is fairly painful, but i can suggest you dont lie down for too long. If at all possible, start walking ASAP and make sure all your muscles keep going. As long as you look after the wound, it will heal quickly and easily (very much like any cut or bruise). Good luck!!

Congrats on the pregnancy. As long as you take good care of yourself and have plenty of people to help around the house after you should be ok. The say it takes about 6 weeks to heal totally. But it depends on the individual. I had an emergency c section with my second child and they had to put me to sleep, but I still recovered ok. Although I had a slight cough and this can be very painful as you will not be able to cough easily. So make sure you try and keep away the colds and flus. Also you must remember to enjoy being a mother and make the most of people running around helping you, it will give you more time to enjoy the important things in your life now. Good luck

Pain is a very individual thing. Make sure you have a good anesthesiologist for your epidural, he/she will give you extra med. before removing the epidural catheter... that will get you through the first day or so. Then if you need it you can get pain med. You will be up and moving right away... know that it is for the best. You will be advised to do no heavy lifting... nothing heavier than your baby, for about 6 weeks. You will be feeling just great after about 3 days. Just follow your doctor's instructions.

The incision is just a few inches and the surgeon will "hide" it at the bikini line.

For the pain, I was given Morphine while in the hospital and was given a prescription for Darvocet when I went home. Although, the healing process varies from each pregnancy and each person, for me it took almost four months before I was semi-full functioning again. (It was my fourth pregnancy and my only c-section - it was also an emergency c-section about 8 inches long.) My son will be 16 months tomorrow and I am still numb around the incision site.

Good luck!

I had a c-section with my daughter three months ago and I am not going to lie; it hurts. My incision was about 6 inches long and although I though I wasn't even going to be able to move after about 2 days I was able to walk around on my own. At first I felt like I had to hold my stomach though cause I thought everything was going to fall out! lol! I wasn't able to lie on my side or stomach for first month . But after the first week I was walking around like nothing happened. It still hurt but not nearly as much. I took about four weeks for all of the pain to go away but after about a week I would take IB and that would just about kill all of the pain. Really it isn't that bad when you think about it and trust me worrying about it will only make it worse.

Well I have had 2 C-sections and the first one was rough it took me about a week to be able to get around good just make sure you have someone there to help you, the pain wasn't as bad as I thought. The first time you get up to walk is the worst but after you start moving around it gets easier. It took me about 3 weeks to be able to like put jeans on or anything tight around your waist so make sure you have allot of elastic band pant to wear like warm ups something loose my scar is about 4-5 inches long not very big. But all in all I would not have had it any other way I was awake and able to be with my babies right away. Pain well you kinda put your pain on the back burner because you are so over joyed, so you have to be careful not to over do it. I had allot of help and was able to just enjoy my baby and I hope that you will to! But all in all its not as bad as it seems!Good Luck and Congratulations! Any more questions just e-mail me and I will try and help you as best that I can! My e-mail is stormy2u2001@yahoo.com!! God Bless you and your Bundle Of Joy!

I ended up having an unplanned c section and the pain is pretty intense, especially in the morning. It took me about a week afterwards to actually feel like myself again. My incision was about 10 inches long but im sure varies from person to person doctor to doctor. Congratulations on your baby!
