Caddy 500. They only weigh a few pounds more than a SBC and are alot lighter than a BBC. Our you could go with the "Mother of no creativity" and use a 350 chevy.

Depends on how serious you want to go you could put a mild 383 stroker all the way up to a massive 572 stroker that car if it is the chevy 2 nova go a bit smaller if its the fullsize nova go with the 572 thats no doubt bigger is always better i am getting ready to attempt and put a 572 stroker in a chevy S-10 body..You can make it go with a small block also....

396/425 Horse Big Block Chevy, but reinforce the under-body or you can twist the body with the torque.
Otherwise a 350 SS L88 (I think) Small Block. She will fit in well, and will give you the balls out torque. She will work well with a 350 Turbohydromatic, and a 5:13 rear end. But check those number, it has been a long time since I messed with street racers.

496 BB Chevy, hydraulic roller cam, Demon 1150 cfm carb, 100 shot of nitrous, 10.5:1 JE flat top pistons, Weiand intake, Hooker shorty headers.
I have this setup in my 70 Monte Carlo, which will run high 11s all day on street radials. In your light Nova, this should pull low 11s in the 1/4.

Use the biggest engine you can afford! Big or small block, bore and stroke it to the maximum. You can always throw on some factory stamped valve covers and a 350hp/327 or 435hp/427 air cleaner, and nobody will know. A smallblock is nice because you can stand in the engine bay to work on it!

There's no replacement for displacement. Go big and don't discount a Hemi. If I was really serious, I wouldn't consider anything under about 450 inches and 100 more would be nice.
