Answer this question:

No taxation without representation: How did this contribute to the start of the Revolutionary war?

No taxation without representation: How is this a symbol of democracy?

Democracy=Freedon

Contribution- How did the taxation/representation influence the people's thoughts about being an English Colony, instead of a free country/democratic country.

I hope that this helps,

I can't give you the answer that you are seeking, but maybe this will clearify the question.

"No taxation without representation" was a HUGE force that motivated the American revolution and it became a symbol for democracy. You will want to look at the "Boston tea Party" to give some practical proof of this.

You may also want to include in your paper that the American revolution was not really a "revolution." A "revolution" is a violent overthrow of an existing social order (i.e. The French Revolution or the Iranian Revolution of 1979). The American colonies merely wanted to move government that ruled them moved from London, England to Philadelphia, PA. But they essentially wanted to keep the same structures, freedoms, and responsibilities in place. So it wasn't a revolution--it was more like a "counter-revolution."

Ok, so taxation without representation was basically this: The Brits were imposing taxes on the colonists, without any explanation or real reason to. The colonists were basically on their own. Its like you living on your own, but your parents control your household and your money, even though you live in another state... or country, in this case.

What the question asks is "How did this motivate the the colonists to start a revolution?" This revolution is a symbol of democracy for the colonists. But how? (Thats the other part of your question)

I hope this helped. Good luck on your paper!

The colonists did not think that it was fair for England to tax them especially when they did not have anyone to represent them! The Boston Tea Party was one of the major causes of the Revolutionary War! The colonists also wanted to be free from English rule! They wanted to govern themselves! The colonists won the Revolutionary War and therefore won their independence from England! This in turn helped the cause for democracy in the newly formed Country!
I hope this information has helped you! If I give you anymore information you won't have write your own paper and this would not be fair to you!

Reference facts like the Boston Tea Party, which was a violent revolt against products being shipped in that were heavily taxed, and our current government, which is a representative government. Depending on how long the essay is supposed to be, if you write a paragraph on each one of these, with a good intro and conclusion, you're good to go. Good luck!
