They call it the "chocolate" city. Isn't that racist terminology? Don't they select white-washed blacks like Powell and Rice to represent them?

I don't f'in care if the Mayor called it chocolate. I don't think Republicans should use this racist analogy no matter who does.

I don't know if it was for being racist or not. But I understand your point. New Orleans should've been aided as soon as possible by the federal government, no matter what. I think since this happened in a non-election year, they just washed their hands with the whole thing. Good thing I'm not a Reckpublican. But I don't like it when any of the two parties use it as a platform during elections. Hurricanes are a cause of nature not something else. It's a real disgrace that so many black people (or if it's OK to use Negroe but I think it's between them) had to see their houses go down. New Orleans will prove Bush and his Reckpublicans wrong when the Orleanese (correct me if I'm not correct) rebuild their important city with class.

Look, the people and the state haven't stepped up to the plate to make things better. It has NOTHING to do with race. hell, a majority of the people who left have not come back. The Times-Picayune paper said that 85% of the people returning are Latino and whites.

Mississippi has pulled together and only one casino has not opened and guess what, most of the homes have been either fixed, torn down and rebuilt, or something put in its place. All that was done by the citizens and the state with some help from the feds.

New Orleans is looking for hand outs and more welfare. I Live in Louisiana and I know, I see it all the time because I work in the so called " Chocolate City".

We have a crook and a murder for a mayor.

Look here, it is not the republican party that is to blame for the slow flow of funds to the people of New Orleans. I would say that if anyone needs to be questioned further about where the money is, its NO mayor Ray Nagin. He's been acting awefully guilty lately. By the way, Nagin is a democrat, but nice try. I especially love how you decided to cut the throats of Colon Powell and Condoleezza Rice because they dont play up your stereotype of what a black person should be. How about this, I'm gonna ask everyone on yahoo answers to send you a crispy dollar bill so you can buy yourself a glass of STFU. I'll be the first, post your address up and I'll mail it to you.

This is a divisive question. I think all Americans recognize that people were hurting after Katrina. Moreover, the government was slow to react, which cost people dearly. The federal government has helped a great deal financially now, however. Remember that the Mayor and Governor are Democrats. Why are they immune to criticism? Yes, the Bush administration moved too slowly in the beginning, but I think the American people, black and white, are compassionate and have done a great deal to help our neighbors in need.

The republicans never called it the chocolate city, only the mayor of New Orleans did. He was using the terminology to say the city belongs to blacks. He doesn't want white people there.
What dumbass told you the Republicans said that?

The problems New Orleans faced and are still facing go across all party lines. Can't blame that one on any 1 group, there were failures by ALL. And like has already been mentioned, that was Mayor Nagin who called it a "chocolate city".

The idea is to degrade all governmental services, (try searching "starve the beast"), except for the military. This is the neocon concept of good government: government doesn't do anything well, private business does. FEMA had been downscaled, and was headed by a political hack. The fact that New Orleans was mainly black may have been a contributing factor, but I don't think it was the main thing. They had cut funding, personnel and expertise from FEMA and other federal agencies, and of course then these govenmental organizations didn't work well in the emergency. The Republicans were then able to say, "see government does a terrible job".

Unfortunately I can't answer your question, as your premises are mistaken. I can only ask you questions in return.

1. Do you honestly think no Republicans aided New Orleans? No Republicans gave to the Red Cross, no Republicans helped with rebuilding?

2. Do you think only black people lived in New Orleans?

3. Do you know who first used the term "chocolate city"?

4. Do you think black people have to act a certain way in order to be "really black"? Isn't such an expectation racist in nature?

Mayor Ray Nagin called it a "Chocolate City" and the governmant has helped. The problem comes in when people feel that they should be completely taken care of instead of trying to stand on thier own two feet.
