Does it take away the desire to have sex?

I have heard of this being done to some women in different cultures. They cut it off so that the woman doesnt get any pleasure from sex and therefore wont cheat on her husband.

Also it doesnt matter that the woman doesnt feel pleasure as long as its the man who does.

It's called female circumcision (or female genital mutilation) and many cultures in Africa and Egypt do this...depending on your social status, it can be done in hospitals where just a clipping of the skin off of the clitoris is removed all the way up to having your complete clitoris carved out with a broken piece of glass in the street in a ritual...There are many variances of this practice. Not just muslims.

Yes, it takes away sexual desire and the cultures that practice it feel that if the women do not have any sexual desires then they won't stray...

Islam does not permit changing the form God created Mankind unless there is a medical reason behind that.
Thus Islam does not permit this action. Yet, prior to Islam this practice were widely used in Africa as the culture there encourage this practice as means to protect ladies for committing sins.
Thus till today, it is widely adapted by illetrate and uneducated persons in parts of Africa regardless they are Muslims or not

I'm Muslim myself and never heard of it before reading it in anti-Islamic media. After that, I started searching and knew that it's practiced in Egypt and Sudan and regardless of religion. So, it's a culture thing inherited - maybe - from ancient civilization of Pharaohs which flourished in that part of the World during ancient times.

I read a biography of a muslim woman. can't remember the name of the woman or book. It said this was common to do to women when they were wed so they would not want pleasure from another man. Would not cheat I guess.

it is not a Muslim custom, but a tribal custom. It goes back before Islam was a religion. Later newly Muslim converts practiced their ancient customs including this barbaric one.
