8. Replace Lost or Destroyed Diplomas

A lost or damaged diploma will be replaced by the registrar's office for a $100 fee when you submit a notarized Diploma Replacement Form. Please be aware that a replacement diploma is not the same as the original. The replacement diploma is printed with the original graduation date, but with the current Dean's and President's signatures. Also, a copy of your transcript -- not your diploma -- is proof to employers that you are a graduate of the school.

9. Obtain an Academic Transcript

Prospective employers may expect you to furnish them with proof that you attended and graduated from the Journalism School . Mere mention of your name on a Journalism School document or web site, or a telephone conversation between you, or your employer, or a search company and somebody at the Journalism School, is not proof that you graduated from the school with a degree.

The transcript is an official record of the student's entire tenure at Columbia. It reflects all coursework and grades per term for each school attended within the University. Other information on the transcript includes:

* your name as it appears in the Columbia University records
* your school and departmental affiliation
* your degree/certificate program (if applicable)
* your degree/certificate conferral date (if applicable)
* honors earned (if applicable)
* some schools also display the G.P.A.- the G.P.A. will not be printed on transcripts of students who attended prior to 1982

There is no fee for this service. Transcripts cannot be produced for anyone whose record has been put on hold for an outstanding University obligation.
