About 6 years ago when Burger King was having a Poke-mon promotion I helped my friend out (who was a manager there) by volunteering to dress up in a silly Pikachu costume his mom made for kid's nite. And the last time I looked down at myself I was a girl.... so I will have to say that Pikachu is a girl (with a good sense of humor and wonderful set of *&^%$) :)

I don't think the anime says what gender Pikachu is, but in the games you can have a Pikachu of either gender.

Pikachu is the species, therefore it can be either male or female, although Ash's Pikachu is generally considered to be male.
