It's commonly known as the "shift shaft". Different manufactures have their own terminology.
-Honda - gear shift spindle ( the lever - change pedal)
-Kawasaki -change lever (the lever - lever)
-Suzuki - gear shift shaft ( the lever - gear lever)
-Yamaha - shift lever assembly (the lever - shift pedal)
Go to the parts dept at any Jap shop and ask for a "shift shaft" for your bike. They'll know exactly what you're talking about.
The shift shaft moves the shift linkage, that turns the shift drum.
