I have 2 laptop computers both running Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2. When they are networked directly to each other via an ethernet crossover cable, I can't access my wireless internet. While the ethernet is connected, Windows shows that my computer is connected to the wireless network but I can't get on the internet. In order to do so, I must unplug the ethernet cable and then repair my wireless connection.

I was wondering if anyone has ever encountered this problem or knows how to fix it.

Sorry I didn't specify in the question. I'm using a program called MaxiVista to allow me to use my second laptop computer as a second display. My second laptop computer does not have wireless capability, only my primary laptop does. And I know the problem is not caused by the program because the internet still doesn't work even when the program is not running.

If I understand you correctly your not using a Cable or DSL connection are you? But if you are using a DSL or Cable connection and your using a wireless router on top of an Ethernet crossover cable that's why your having the problem. You don't need both a Wireless router network on top of which using a Ethernet crossover cable. Use either the Ethernet Crossover Cable or the wireless router.

You can do everything with wireless router as you can with an Ethernet Crossover Cable.

GENIUS here found out something !! Yaaaayyyyyyy !! When you use something like nobody designed it to do, you get weird results.

Theoretically, your network takes away the need to hardwire your 2 laptops. Why not just use the benefits for which you purchased the network??
