I have a Quarter Horse and I personally think they are the best breed to get. Very Well behaved and will learn to be great when your in the saddle. They can be in the trails or the showring, or BOTH! (By the way I have a Quarter Horse mare and she is very well behaved when she is in heat. But some horses arn't. So make sure if your going to buy a mare.)

I think you would need a Quarter Horse. There is limited things you can do with a tenesse walker and a saddle bred if you do there gaits.Trust me i ride tennesse walkers and i cant do what i useally do.If you get a Quarter Horse you can do many things like jump, barrel race, pole bending, ect., ect.. There is a great chance a Quarter Horse could be your next race horse because thats how they got their name for running a quarter of a mile. A quarter horse could also become your all around horse with trails and normal shows. Thats why you should get a Quarter Horse.

A Mustang adoption is good if you have the time, patience and knowledge to work with and train. Quarter Horses, Paints and Appaloosas are great western horses and are very versatile.

remember that each horse is an individual, even within a breed type. If you are new to horses, look for an older experienced one, that is trained and quiet. Stock horse breeds,...like Quarter horses, and such,..would be best suited to the things you like to do.

Since you are thinking of adopting a Mustang, please consider these, also: http://www.pmufoaladoption.org/
My personal favorite is the Rocky Mountain Horse - known to be gentle & tractable, live a long time & have a smooth gait. More on them at: http://www.thegaitedhorse.com/rocky_mountain.htm

Tennessee walkers are very good with their feet and graceful, palomino's are amazing! ( my personal choice), maybe an Arabian. Paints can be temper mental, try to avoid, along with Appaloosa's. hope this helped.
