10s + 30 = 5s - 125
Subtract 5s from each side
5s + 30 = -125
Subtract 30 from each side
5s = -155
Divide both sides by 5
s = -31

Plug s = -31 into each side if you want to confirm the equality you should get -280 in each case.

Ok what you have to do is put what's common on the same side

so 10s+30 = 5s-125
will be: 10s-5s = -125-30
(note that what you transfer to the other side changes sign i.e. + will become - and - will become +)

if you work it out you'll have that 5s = -155

now to get s you want to divide both sides by 5

the solution is s = -31

ok well... you have to subtract the 30 from both sides and subtract the 5s from both sides so it looks like this:
5s=-155 because 10s-5s = 5s on the left side and -125-30 is -155 so then you just divide -155 by 5 to get -31 i think... i did it in my head so you probably wanna recheck the work hope this is what you meant by step by step explanation =)

To start: 10s+30 = 5s-125
rearranging: 10s-5s = -125-30
which becomes: 5s = -155

then divide both sides by 5
which becomes: s = -31

10s+30=5s-125
combine like terms
subtract 5s from both sides
5s+30=-125
subtract 30 from both sides
5s=-155
divide by 5
s=-31
