People are giving you mean answers because they are irritated about BAD salesmem. Good salesmen, on a contrary, can very very helpful.

Bas salesman select their target audience poorly. For example, selling farming tools to someone who doesn't have a farm will only irritate the person.

Good salesman will find out about the needs of the potential customer. He will listen what is needed rather then telling them what should they buy. True, sometimes you can seel stuff to people even if they don't need it, but I wouldn't put it as a goal.

Learn what's good about your product and how it is better than competitor's product.

Yeah, and the last piece - don't believe that being good at sales has to be natural abiliy. This is a skill. Skills are learned.

What do people need nowadays: e.g example mobile phones, the internet, the latest operating systems like Windows Vista and any other latest inventions.
