Jennifer B's definition is correct. Cliches can take various forms. All of us have probably used them to some extent. Depending on the context, they may or may not even be considered cliches.
Certain sayings, such as:
"Walk a mile in my shoes."
"Don't count your chicks before they've hatched."
"Don't let the cat out of the bag."
Also, certain literary or artistic themes can be perceived as "overused" or "worn out".
Finally, one can find an abundance of cliches right here on Yahoo Answers, any message board or other forum.

The term cliché (or cliche) is a phrase, expression, or idea that has been overused to the point of losing its intended force or novelty, especially when at some time it was considered distinctively forceful or novel.
