Not like Hendrix, even just to be able to bash out a few chords like The Buzzcocks' songs. How often and for how long should you practice?

I've been playing for over twenty years and I still think I suck but just to play simple stuff doesn't take too long. The chords are quite easy but getting a good strumming technique requires some time and effort.

You should be able to play fairly well withing a month or so if you practise every day.

What you really need to learn or know is how to tune the guitar to perfect tune. Buy an electronic gismo and learn how to use it. Play [practice?] every single day, doesn't matter whether it's a minute or an hour. Every day you miss go back two squares. If you have the talent you will know after about a month whether to keep going or change to Ludo! Wish you luck, I've been a folk-singer for almost fifty years! Good luck, good buddy.

Reckon about two years to learn the basics with practice about 4 hours per day 3 times per week. Any advance on the basics requires more.

Depends, how old are you?
I started when I was14 that was 16 yrs ago, now I can play just about anything...You need to practise everyday for an hr or more and allot on the weekends...your fingers will suffer and your fingertips will get blisters etc but hey one must suffer for ones art..its worth it in the end to hear yourself play something like teen spirit by Nirvana...

Hey, most punk has 3 chords! That's easy enough to learn... it doesn't take too long to learn the basic chords, but lemme warn you, F and barr (spelling?) chords are EEEEEEEEEVIL. Tabs can be helpful to help you learn. Hope that helps!

It'll take a while. Nothing happens overnight. Practice at LEAST 30 minutes a day. I emphasize AT LEAST :)

About as long as it takes not to learn to play guitar.
