1. He showed blacks that they could find strength in numbers and leadership and lead them "into the light" - that the movement has faltered greatly is not his fault, but rather the fault of an assassin and the failure of those who followed him to lead with the greatness he did.
2. While it wasn't an intent of his, his death showed minority communities that some things were worth being a target for. Unfortunately, few blacks have taken that and combined it with his message of peace and non-violence, and the few that have made targets out of themselves (Black Panther leaders, for instance), have advocated violence and radical behavior.
3. I think winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 was a pretty big accomplishment.
