The idea of using black people from sub-Saharan Africa as slaves initially came from the existing Arabian and Persian slave trade along East Africa which Portuguese sailors came into contact with in the ...

History-not my quote, real history! The Portuguese sold slaves to a small handful of white farm owners, in only a few states. The Cival War, whites killed Whites shedding each others blood to free the slaves!-More true history! Slavery was in America a very short time and we all paid dearly for it. However, it was long before in many. many other Countries! See the History of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic! Let the Truth be known!

sax7515 Easy for you to type a (so said and ever so questionable ) quote. Here is a real quote with citations for proof from the real words of Thomas Jefferson:
“ The doctrines of Jesus are simple, and tend to all the happiness of man.”
“Of all the systems of morality, ancient or modern which have come under my observation, none appears to me so pure as that of Jesus.”
"I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus."
“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are a gift from God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, and that His justice cannot sleep forever.” (excerpts are inscribed on the walls of the Jefferson Memorial in the nations capital) [Source: Merrill . Rkalch, AGAIN, You do not understand what YOU ARE READING! Your brain is clogged! Your site proves my point the first sentence is incomplete so it is not valid, other quotes do not show the Author and the 3rd and 5th quote down SHOW THEY ARE INDEED CHRISTIAN!!! THANKS for proving my point!
" Indeed, Mr. Jefferson, what could be invented to debase the ancient Christianism, which Greeks, Romans, Hebrews, and Christian factions, above all the Catholics, have not fraudulently imposed upon the public? Miracles after miracles have rolled down in torrents, wave succeeding wave in the Catholic church, from the Council of Nice, and long before, to this day."
To Jefferson, Dec. 3, 1813
Read the first sentence and emphisize on "WHAT" as a question...Then, read the next sentence as a statement to follow up that YES indeed there HAS been many many MIRICALS!
And that's the truth! You can not deny it! You can try to confuse these GOOD people, but NOT on my watch!!! I care to my about the truth!

They also allowed slavery
ALSO:
WE the General Assembly of Virginia do enact that no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer, on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities.
-Thomas Jefferson-
If your point is that the founding fathers were christian, bravo, you've stated the painfully obvious. If you are trying to say America should be entirely christian, then I think my quote wins.

Interesting. I'm sure that I don't have to point out that any personal letters, documents, editorials don't have the force of law. The only thing that matters when it comes to the constitution is the text itself. The constitution does not say we are a christian nation. This is a document that was originally ratified by the 13 original states and then every subsequent state as they joined the union. It's also interesting that you didn't mention the Treaty of Tripoli. This was a treaty signed by the President after being read aloud and approved in congress. Because of that it has the force of law and because it was ratified in 1796, many of the men who ratified it were involved in the creation of the constitution. Article 11 of the treaty reads:
"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen (Muslims); and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."
You might want to look it up.

Some were also Free Masons, and a part of other seceret groups, while some were of different beliefs all together. Just because it says that, does not mean they were Christian. At the time, most of the US were leaning towards a Christian State, so the fore fathers may have decided to throw that in so they would get support from the country. It's happened in many other countries that the government has leaned towards the majority to get elected and to keep support.

Good lord woman, anybody can pull a quote here and there to prove their point!
Hey everyone, don't believe me or her; read and use the brain God gave you.
Hamilton was the only real "Christian" of the founding fathers. Most were deist and chose Reason over Faith. That IS what the country was founded on - Reason.
You deserve some truth today! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
[update] Just remember everyone - read, compare, contrast and THINK; then come to a conclusion for YOURSELF. Most of us that actually study history don't have an agenda and are perfectly OK if you come to a different conclusion - hence we don't attack others differing opinion. Cheers!
[update] egg on my face? Am I a teenager? I would suggest you actually practice your religion and learn somthing of humility and emotionally / spiritually mature before you continue to make an *** out of yourself and cause.

Well, this is common knowledge thank you. America was founded by Chritians and other religious people to escape persecution. In America today even there are more Christians than any other religion. Your first amendment right is freedom of religion, speech, etc..., I'm not sure if you're trying to say everyone in America should be Christian or just pointing out a commonly known idea, but our founding fathers never specified to what religion people had to be, making them the first liberals.

Those quotes prove that SOME of our founding fathers were Christians, but none of them say that religion should play any role in government or vice versa.
The truth is that the founders were very clear in stating that the government should never be allowed to impose religion on anyone. Freedom of religion means freedom for all religions, not just Christianity:
"Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination."
-Thomas Jefferson, Autobiography, in reference to the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom

Some of them were, some were not, including Washington,Jefferson and Franklin. They were Deists. But it didn't matter if they were christian or not, because they framed the Constitution in a way to make sure the Government would never be Christian, Muslim ,or Hindu, but free of the influence of any religion.
No where in the Constitution do you see the name of Jesus Christ. It was left out on purpose.

They may have been Christian, nobody denies that, but they had the wisdom to write: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof", ensuring us freedom of and freedom from religion.

This "question" is simply a lie. There are exactly two times in the Constitution that religion is mentioned. One is the prohibition against religious tests for public office. The other is in the First Amendment when Congress is prohibited from establishing religion. That's it.
God is not mentioned at all. Jesus is not mentioned at all. Christianity is not mentioned at all.
