What my mother does to me. She doesn't want money like a real blackmailer (that would be easier!). She wants to lord it over me that she labored and brought me into the world and raised me and now I owe her _________ (fill in the blank). Whatever it is she wants me to do, that's what I owe her. It's when someone tries to exact a particular behavior or a return of feeling or a point of view from you based on the fact that they can create an emotion in you: GUILT.

Making your relationship contingient upon doing certain things.
Some people threaten divorce or to end a relationship if they don't get their way. Or they say things like, "if you loved me you would _____" There's never any emotional safety with them. You must be willing to pay the price they demand to be in the relationship or they're out.

A form of manipulation in which someone threatens to punish you in some way if you do not do what they want. It basically comes down to, "if you do not behave in the way I want you to, you will suffer"
