I'm an American but I've traveled abroad a little bit, and I can say without reservation that I've encountered more rude, intolerant, and insensitive people here in the U.S. then anywhere else in the world. In fact, some people seemingly go out of their way to be "nasty" (as you refer to it). It's just a small part of the reason that Americans are becoming increasingly disliked in many areas of the world. Most Americans are fairly intelligent, so I really don't think you can use the ignorance card to excuse their behavior. It's taken me a long time, but I've learned that it's best to just ignore these people. They obviously have some issues, and either aren't happy with their lives, or are just plain mean-spirited. Either way, it's best to just let what they say roll off your back. I sense a great deal of anger, resentment, jealousy, and either a low self-esteem, or a ego trip in most of these people.

it's the fact that they don't have a life. They like that no one knows who they are and so they think they have carte blanche to say what they want.
I personally thing this is a wonderful idea and I try to give the best answers (I've been surprised by being pick as best answer for a few things). Just like anyone... ignore them, I'm sure we will all have to pay for the fools and their mouths. Have fun with them. They have low self esteem and have lousy typing and vocabulary. Enjoy real peoples advice and information and just have a laugh at everyone else at THEIR expense. There are people who care.

You'll get immune to it after some time. Just give them a thumbs down, and you don't even have to look at their response anymore. The thing you SHOULDN'T do, is give them best answer, just to get their attention and respond to what they said. That's a good way to encourage their behavior, and keep them going. If you don't acknowlege them, they'll move on to someone else.
