Right. The aim of Minesweeper is to click on the boxes and not discover a mine, until all u hav left is mines, then you've won.
A good place to start is in a corner, but if there's a mine there then you're gonna blow up, so you need to re-start (by clicking the little smiley face at the top)
If there's no mine under the square you've clicked, there will be a number. This number tells you how many mines are contained in the bigger 3x3 square AROUND THE SQUARE YOU JUST CLICKED ON. So, if you get, say, a 2, you know that there's two mines in either the three squares above you, the two to either side, or the three below you. But you don't know which ones. So you have to use logic to work it out.
Let's say you start in the top LH corner and get a 1. You know that the three squares forming the corner or the big square around you have got one mine in them (the other 5 squares of the big square are off the board, so they don't count). So you have to guess. So let's say you click on the next square along and get a 2. Well you know that there's 2 mines in the 4 squares around the 2, and you ALSO know that ONLY ONE OF THEM can be in the first two squares, because the '1' tells you that there can be only 1 (sounds like an advert for 'The Highlander'!). So now you know the first two squares under you must have only 1 mine, so the other mine MUST be in the next square below you or in the one to your right. So click on another square, lets say the next one to the right. Let's say this gives a '1'. Now you know exactly where 2 mines are. The first one is under the first '1', and the other is under the second '1'. This satisfies the conditions of both the '1's and also the '2', as its two mines are to its left and to its right. So now you can mark the mines, br RIGHT-clicking on them once (they get a little flag). Now carry on for the whole board.
Remember, if you get a '3' it means there are exactly 3 mines in the big square around the 3 that you've just uncovered. If you've already exposed 2 of them, there's only one left to find, etc, etc.
If you've decided that a mine can be in one of, say, 3 positions but you don't know which one of the three, Right-clicking twice (slowly, not a double-click) will change it to a question mark, which you can come back to later.
Also if, by discovering a mine and marking it, you manage to satisfy one of the other numbers, then clicking LEFT+RIGHT at the same time on the now-satisfied number will remove all the squares without a mine that are in its own big square.
Have fun!

Start Minesweeper,
Type "xyzzy" without the quotes,
Hit Shift and Enter at the same time,
Minimize all application windows that hide the desktop. The uppermost pixel in the top left corner of your desktop will turn black when you mouse over a mine, and white when it's safe to click.

You start the game. First, click on any little box. It will then either show a number or a bomb. The bomb means that you stepped on a bomb, and you lost the game already. Tough luck, it happens. If it is a number, that mumber represents the number of bombs that box is touching. You must use those numbers to isolate the bombs. When you have isolated the squares that you think are bombs, right-click on them once to mark them wit a flag. If you right-click twice, it will make a question mark, which im not sure what its for,

The nubers that are in the box represent how many mines are in the 8 surrounding boxes. Right click where there is a mine to flag it.
