Generally, before six months, bunnies' main diet should be hay, water, and lucerne pellets. Some say you can begin introducing vegetables at four months, some say not until six months of age. Most importantly, when you begin to introduce vegies, you must do it VERY slowly and gradually - begin with just one slice or one very small piece of your chosen vegie or fruit, and make sure it doesn't give her diarrhoea over the next 24 hours before giving any more. Please see my own website, where I've written articles on this, at

You should never give cabbage or lettuce to rabbits - lettuce and cabbage are both very bad for rabbits, can cause diarrhoea and bloat which can kill them -

Please Don't give your rabbit lettice has it's high in water and can give your rabbits the runs!! same with watermelon, cabbage & grass!! Carrots are like suger to a rabbit and should only be give every other day!! Apples are ok for your rabbits but only every other day & with out the peeling and seeds !! there are more but its safer not to give them that much fruits and veggies! I give my rabbits hay as a treat they love it! I will take paper towel tubes and stuff them full of hay and let them have it they scrach at it till the get a pice of hay!! I Love watching the play with it ~ Hope this helps~

Most vegetables (snow peas, lettuce, carrots, etc) are fine, raw, and some seeds (sunflower, squash, etc), but in small quantities. You want it to eat its food, but a few pieces of something else as a treat is fine.
Untreated wood and cardboard are alright for them to ingest. They love to chew. Don't forget plenty of hay, too. It helps their digestion.

Timothy hay is very important and should be the main part of their diet. Other than pellets you can feed them lots of different types of fruits and veggies such as dark leafy greens, strawberries, blueberries, bannanas, etc. Just keep in mind that the fruits are just a treat.

If you go to this website http://www.rabbit.org you can find a list of appropriate foods. Carrots should only be given occassionally because they are high in sugar.
