white birch is not common in Northwest Ind, and I have querried tree services and florists as well as tree nursuries

The zip code lookup indicates that you live in Munster, IN and that Hammond, IN is close by. Best bet might be to call crafts stores in your area. Michael's is probably the best bet.

Not sure of where in your area but I assume that you need the bark? Some outdoor and craft shops will carry it. Or you might try calling some of your local tree trimmers and see if they have recently cut one down. I like the tree but a lot of people see it as a nu sense.

look in your phone book and call tree co / arborists and ask them if there takeing down any berch trees in your neck of the woods you can also contact a wood waste co ( were you get mulch and dump wood waste ) and ask if you can take a look around there yard .
i have ppl call me at least once a mounth requesting diffrent kinds of wood hope i could help
