black rabbits aren't native to the UK, (actually neither were brown rabbits - brought over by one invader or another) but the black ones (i think) are the result of domesticated (ie pet) rabbits being released or escaping and breeding with the brown ones. If I'm wrong I do apologise and blame my daddy! Also, could it be a genetic mutation? randomness of DNA messing with our image of cuddly brown rabbits?
